Firstly you need to download the client from here: www.arc.patabugen.co.uk/download.php?id=11 .
Once you have downloaded and installed this you need to create a username:
The first time you load ARC you will see a screen like this:
Click on New User to bring this up:
fill in your details and click Create, when you have created your username logon with thoes details.
When you login the rooms list appears, there are usually two servers (but occasionally only one of them appears) to choose from, click the + next to each of servers to see which rooms exist. To create your own click on Create, otherwise selece one and click Join. You will then see a list of who else is in the room on the right:
At the top of the screen you will see the servers list, in the list you can see details of the server such as the Name, Map, Players in the server (and max players) and the Ping (a lower ping is a better connection to the server - the servers are sorted with the lowest ping at the top of the list going down).
When you select a server more details will appear on the right, including the settings of the server and (usually) the list of players in the server. (Players with an M on the left of thier name are a moderator in the server.
When you have decided which server to join double click on it, you will leave the chat room you are in and ARC will start. It might take a little while so be paitent.
Once you are in ARC you will start in the Holding Pen, you will see how long until you are release from the pen. To move your ship around use the arrow keys, aim the cross hair with your mouse and click the left mouse button to shoot lasers.
You also have 3 special weapons, which you shoot using the right mouse button. Only one can be selected at a time. You can chose which one wis selected by either clicking on it on the right of the screen, by pressing Control or using a scroll wheel on a mouse to scroll thru them:
You cannot hurt other people who are the same colour as you, there are 3 types of game: Flags (the most common), Frags and Switches. In a flags or Switches game your team must control all the flags/switches on the map to win (and score thier team a point), and in a frags game you just keep destroying till your fingers fall off =].
